No. 7: The Incredibly Dead Pets of Rex Dexter by Aaron Reynolds - When I’ve tried to describe this book to others - it doesn’t sound very enticing. The premise is a little bit like the Tom Hanks movie “Big” - Chronically irresponsible, yet endearing Rex plays an old “Grim Reaper” themed arcade game. He wishes for a pet. He loses and ends up with the “Reaper’s Curse” and the ghosts of animals with unfinished business seek him out, to hilarious results. (I had high expectations for the author of the picture book Creepy Carrots, and I hope he writes some more novels after this one!)
