Summer Reading no. 9: Leonard (My Life as a cat) by Carlie Sorosiak. I enjoyed this one. A thoughtful mash up of cats and E.T..

Summer Reading no. 8: (and 7th SSYRA title!) J.D. and the Great Barber Battle by J. Dillard and illustrated by Akeem S. Roberts. After a disastrous haircut from his mom, J.D. wears a baseball cap to hide it. When he tries to cut his own hair, he discovers he’s a talented barber and wears a hat to surprise his friends. Digital illustration created in Procreate.
Summer reading no. 7: Ben Yokoyama and the Cookie of DOOM by Matthew Swanson and Robi Behr. Initially, looking at the cover, I thought this was just going to be a bunch of silly nonsense, but this not-quite graphic novel had a lot of heart. Ben gets a fortune cookie that tells him to live each day like it’s his last. Soon he, his parents, and his neighbors start taking that advice literally. Hilarious hijinks ensue.
Summer Reading no.5 Carry me Home by Janet Fox. (The main character folds lots of paper cranes/wishes .)
Summer reading no. 4: The Beast and the Bethany by Jack Meggitt-Phillips and illustrated by Isabelle Follath. Not every book is for everyone. This one was a bit macabre for my tastes, sort of a Lemony Snickett meets Roald Dahl, but I’ve crossed another title off the SSYRA list. Digital illustration created in Procreate.
Summer reading no. 3: Katie the Catsitter by Colleen AF Venable and Stephanie Yue. This book was not what I was expecting in the best way. I don’t want to spoil things, but there are 217 cats, some of whom are fond of stealing sofas. Digital illustration created in Procreate.
Summer Reading no. 2: Another great SSYRA title. Lola Benko: Treasure Hunter by Beth McMullen. My inner ten year old Indiana Jones loving self loved reading this adventure. Digital illustration created in Procreate.
”Well, if we’re on our own, we’re going to need some help.” Farmers from Tol.
Digital illustration created in Procreate. I did not expect my favorite part of Obi Wan Kenobi to be little Leia. She’s my new favorite. Created in Procreate.
